Reminder: Dental Benefits Expiring

Reminder: Dental Benefits Expiring

If you have dental insurance, you pay your insurance premiums all year long, but, like most insurance policies, these benefits expire at the end of the year. Any patients who have these types of policies should take full advantage of their benefits. Otherwise, you end up wasting benefits, which directly affects your oral health. Don't worry; there's still time to use your dental benefits before they expire! Are you not convinced? Here are four reasons why you need to make a dentist appointment before your benefits expire at the end of the year.

Yearly Dental Premiums

Many dental insurance policies have a cumulative amount that can be paid per year for dental treatments. The exact number varies based on your insurance policy. However, the national overall gross dental coverage is around $1,000 per person per year, but again, it can vary. As we explained above, these maximums usually reset at the end of each calendar year. Any unused dollars are non-refundable.

Dental Insurance Deductibles

Every policy package has a premium, which is the amount of money you pay before the benefits start. Including annual maximums, the sums that are deductible varies according to the contract and insurance provider. Deductibles can be greater if your Denver Highlands dentist is in-network with your insurance provider, but this does not mean that you can't see dentists who are not in-network. Each deductible resets at the end of the year.  Deductibles do not always apply to preventative dentistry, such as dental cleanings, exams, and x-rays.

Dental Premiums

Per year, you incur a fee either through regular premiums deducted from your paycheck or through elective contributions by private dental insurance companies. Dr. O'Grady recommends using your dental insurance benefits for routine cleanings, routine hygiene, and more since you're already paying monthly.  Often the expense of monthly insurance can add up to the same amount as these annual dental checkups. Why not take advantage of these benefits? Dr. Moghadam, a family dentist in Easton, PA, agrees that if you don't utilize your benefits, you're basically paying your dental insurance to stay open.

Putting Off Your Dental Visits

A lot of people are skipping the dentist in general, either because they think they can't afford it or because going to the dentist makes them uncomfortable.  If you postpone going to your Denver, CO dentist right now, this will only create more serious dental problems in the future. Your dental problems will not go away on their own! See a professional before you need a root canal or even a tooth extraction. Whether you have dental insurance or not, you need to make your oral health a priority.
